Track competitor social in ChatGPT and Claude

· 3 min read

In short: ChatGPT and Claude write good social analysis prompts but cannot see rivals’ profiles on their own. Connect Spiderlook’s MCP server and they answer from daily scans of each rival’s Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and X, with the posts behind every answer.

Can ChatGPT or Claude track competitors’ social media?

Yes, once they are connected to a source that tracks it. On their own, ChatGPT and Claude write strong analysis frameworks and summarize what you paste in, but they hold no history of a rival’s followers, posts or engagement. Spiderlook’s MCP server gives them that history, from daily scans of the profiles you choose.

What does the AI need to answer well?

Three things: the right rivals, the right profiles, and a record over time.

  • Rivals: the companies you actually compete with, grouped in one project
  • Profiles: each rival’s Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and X, found from its website or pasted in
  • History: followers or subscribers, posting activity, top posts and engagement per post from every daily scan, with YouTube reporting subscribers and videos

Without the record, the answer to “what changed” is a guess. With it, the answer comes with the posts.

How do you do it without a connector?

Copy the numbers in yourself. Open each rival’s profiles, note followers, new posts and the top performers, paste that into ChatGPT or Claude, and ask for a comparison. It works for a quick look at two or three rivals. It stops working once you need the same comparison every day, or you need to show which post a conclusion came from.

How do you connect Spiderlook to ChatGPT or Claude?

Register Spiderlook as a remote MCP server in your client, sign in, and approve one project on the consent screen. The same steps work in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Cursor, Notion, PostHog and any other client that supports MCP. Settings, then AI agents, in Spiderlook has the endpoint and setup links.

Inside Spiderlook, Ask Spidey answers the same questions without any setup.

What should you ask about competitors’ social media?

Start with the questions you answer by hand today:

  • What changed on our rivals’ social profiles since the previous scan?
  • Which rival posted most on Instagram and LinkedIn this month, and what were the top posts?
  • Compare engagement per post across these three rivals.
  • What themes is Rival A pushing on TikTok and YouTube right now?
  • Is any rival running the same campaign on social and in paid ads?
  • Show me the posts behind this signal.

Where does the answer come from?

From the same data you see in the app: Activity, Signals and each rival’s Social tab. Focus chips set the themes Spiderlook prioritizes for each rival, so the AI starts from what matters to you. Every answer points back to the posts, ads and pages behind it.
