Can't I just use ChatGPT or Claude for competitor research?
An assistant can draft and reason. It does not, by itself, replace a dated scan of the rivals you chose. Spiderlook collects website, social, and Meta and Google ad activity on a daily scan and exposes one project to ChatGPT and Claude through MCP. Use the assistant and the tracker together. Choose ChatGPT or Claude if
- You want a conversation: a draft, a summary, or a line of questions, using sources you connect.
- You already store intel in Klue or Crayon and only need the assistant path those vendors document.
Choose Spiderlook if
- You want a daily scan of the website, social profiles, and Meta and Google ads you turn on for each rival, with the posts, ads, and pages kept as evidence.
- Each client or brand has its own project, and you want that project in Claude Desktop, the claude.ai connector, or ChatGPT.
Use it in Claude and ChatGPT
These are the published Spiderlook steps. Sign-in is OAuth. Do not paste a bearer token.
Claude Desktop
- Add a remote MCP server named spiderlook.
- Set the URL to https://api.spiderlook.com/mcp.
- Or run claude mcp add --transport http spiderlook https://api.spiderlook.com/mcp.
- When Claude asks you to sign in, approve access in Spiderlook. Do not paste a bearer token.
claude.ai connector
- Open Claude on the web and go to Customize, then Connectors.
- Add a custom connector named Spiderlook and paste the MCP endpoint.
- The prefilled connector link opens that modal with the name and URL filled in.
- Choose Connect. Claude starts OAuth and opens Spiderlook so you can sign in and approve.
ChatGPT
- In ChatGPT, add a custom connector or app that accepts a remote MCP server URL.
- Name it Spiderlook and set the server URL to https://api.spiderlook.com/mcp.
- Create the connector. ChatGPT starts OAuth and opens Spiderlook so you can sign in and approve.
- Do not paste a bearer token. Spiderlook does not deep-link ChatGPT, because ChatGPT does not provide a connector install link.
